The Merciless Storm of 2025!

                                                               Weekly Report!
"Hello!" says Ms. Forte! How are you this bitterly cold day?

There was a massive storm this month! We have string lights hanging up in our backyard, and the storm pulled them down and shattered them. The wind was going 40 miles per hour and our 7-8 year old trees were bending like crazy. And it was so cold, if you stayed out there long enough, you would probably have suffered a light case of hypothermia. Thank goodness Dad was out of town and wasn't driving home in it!

Our chickens windows are made of metal cloth, and during the winter, we screw wood over the windows. We hadn't screwed on the wood yet because it's still fall. So our chickens were practically freezing to death out there!

I bravely marched forth with my umbrella to try to cover their windows with plastic bags, but the wood was too wet, and the wind was blowing my umbrella this way and that. I was trying to hold the umbrella over the window so i could dry it and then tape on the the plastic, but my umbrella wasn't working.

I went back inside and then went back outside to try again. The storm had worsened, if that was even possible, and had disastrous results.

The wind broke the umbrellas spokes, and peeled the waterproof cloth off it!!!!

The umbrella had had it's life I suppose, and the storm was so bad it wasn't doing it's job anyway.

I chucked it aside and went to work WITHOUT AN UMBRELLA!

After many failed attempts with the plastic bags, Mom had this epic idea to cut out a piece of cardboard the size of the window and stuff it in. It worked! My hands were so cold I could barely feel them, but I managed.  The results - the chickens were safe!

As soon as I got inside, It started to hail!

We put the wood over the windows the very next day. It has rained every night since, but it is not half as bad as that big storm.

I will always remember the merciless storm of October 2025......

Just so you know, Mom couldn't go outside instead of me because if she went outside, Mr. Chompy would want to go too. If she left without him, he would stop breathing for a minute and howl his lungs out, because he felt so betrayed.  Mr. Chompy loves to be outside, rain or no rain!

Poems of the Week
"Hope" is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without words,
And never stops at all.

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chilliest land
And on the strangest sea;
Yet never in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.
